The President's Message

By Alan Resnick

Our Fly-in was quite a success even though we were only able to fly the BOMB DROP.

The sky was clear, the temperature moderate and we were all hoping the wind would lay down and give us a perfect day. Unfortunately the wind would not cooperate.

We are all very grateful for EAA 534 bringing their Chuck Wagon over to provide a wonderful pancake and sausage breakfast. Thanks to the thoughtful and generous donations, we split a nice little profit. We need to remember our fly-ins are fund raisers.

Directly after breakfast we opened the kitchen and started the burgers and hot dogs plus all the accessories. Our thanks to helicopter Rob Pitschman and his father for providing all the baked goods and to Kristine Babcock for cleaning the clubhouse and providing the lasagna for the dinner banquet. I must thank and acknowledge Cindy Butler for literally jumping in at the last minute and coordinating everything. We all know how things just come together so effortlessly at Gator Field.

As for the Bomb Drop, our friendly R-22 driver Jeff won the event, in forward flight with Schweitzer 300 driver Rob coming in second also in forward flight. The rest of our pilots indicated it was pretty trashy up there, so we had to can the other events. The wind was gusting 15 to 20.

Thanks to Pam and Charlie Almond and Linda Owens for cooking and taking care of the kitchen.

We must also give special thanks to Denis Day for cooking the hog for dinner.

I want to thank all of you I haven’t mentioned for helping and making Gator Field the very special place that it is.

I understand our newest SX pilot, Tom Yowell, returned to the field after a flight to Lake Wier with only 1 sponson. He’ll have to tell us about it!

The FAA has approved retractable landing gear for amphibious LSA.

If you have not started the registration process for your aircraft yet you can contact Buddy Babcock at 407-467-6019. He has contact with an expediter who can get the registration done in a timely manner. Remember in January of 2008 if the aircraft is not registered it becomes a yard ornament.
