The President's Message

By Alan Resnick

We have hangers available!

I am pleased to report that we had a good turn out at both the Work Day on Feb. 28th and at the March meeting.

On the 28th we were able to install the remaining 800 feet of water line along the north end of the runway. Our thanks to Fred Griffith, Howard Webb, Vernon Peckham, Scott and Janis Garrett, Dennis Day and Cindy Butler.

The work on the runway is progressing. Kenny Boykin has had his crew disking, then running a box blade over the surface and a grader has worked on smoothing the surface. Fred Griffith, Rhett Radford, Errol Clark and Dennis Day have been working to do additional surface smoothing. We will ask Kenny to bring the grader in one more time.

At the meeting today the membership has voted to install a permanent irrigation system. The estimated cost is approximately $ 7000.00. We will be working with the investment group, we have some funds on hand but we are short of cash to complete the project.

We will need donations! We have received and have commitments for $ 2000.00 so far.

March 28th and April 4th are both designated WORK DAYS. Charlie Almond is designing the irrigation system and will provide a parts list. With the plan and pipe that will be delivered by the 28th, lateral trenches will have to be dug [with a trencher] to install the pipes in the runway and attached to the main water line. A second trench will have to be dug along the main line to install control wires. There will be about 20 zones with 3 or 4 heads on each. Lunch will be provided.

At the February meeting the elected Board was reelected, Alan Resnick, Pres & Tres., Charles Cantrill, VP, Fran Cantrill Sec., Fred Griffith Dirctor and Charlie Almond, Director. At the March meeting Scott Garrett, Dir. At Large and Janis Garrett, Assistant Sec., were added to the Board.

We have a lot of work to do to restore the runway. When we are finished it will be greatly improved and we will be able to better maintain it with proper irrigation.

We need your help, please come out and join us on the 28th and the 4th.
