December 2002

I called in on Carlos Pereyra down at Rockledge. Sorry to say he is not so well these days, health wise or business wise.  The company has been bought by Bob Boswell who strikes me as an honest man and going to do a good job. He has renamed the company Aero Adventure; they have a staff of eight and his wife manning the office.

Already it is possible to buy one off the shelf and they are doing a great job with spares by return of post. When I went in to see them they were working on John Gruener’s retract system and it works. So maybe soon we will have that long awaited Florida Formation Team back in action. Wouldn’t that be great?

With the new company that great flying instructor come test pilot, Bill Simmons, is there helping out. If anybody needs instruction Fixed wing or Trike send them down to Bill.  He is an AFI.

Bill was helping out with a control modification on the wings and it looked good; this is on the two place with the 912s. They are still called the planes: Adventura, UL, HP, and II, also the latest that Carlos designed, the Toucan.

Rumor has it they are going to build a new Tower for Sun 'n Fun, costing about five thousand dollars. The one we have used for the last eleven years was made and donated to Sun and Fun by The Florida Flying Gators. Of course Sun "n Fun are not funding. Let me know when they would ever be helpful or appreciative, it would be a first. So I am trying to get a donor.  In fact, I have one but whether he can get a guarantee they will let him advertise for his donation is another matter.  The EAA are devious at best. They say this one will have air conditioning and windows.  It will surely help whoever takes over from me. Anyway, I have said Thank You Many Times. So, once again, Thanks.   I have enjoyed the view and it has done a sterling job. I cannot remember how many times I have painted it. Up to last year I used to roll and cut the grass, too.

A visit to Bob White was interesting. Lucky me,  I flew over with Fred.   They had a good showing of airplanes mostly Span Cans, of course. Hot dogs and hamburgers were served. Dave Lepow gave a lot of flights to interested pilots and Laurie was there refueling the airplane.

We are going to support South Lakeland.  They came to our Fly In. I am going to do my bit for them, as well.  Since I was last there they have built a whole new bunch of hangers which blocks a lot of the view of incoming aircraft, but it’s a nice airport with homes.

Lake Wales was host to the model Jet airplanes and I was very surprised to see how advanced these machines have become.  They fly on real jet engines costing up to $3500 a time, so with all they are putting fifteen thousand dollars at stake.  Now that’s an expensive hobby and I, for one, am keeping well away from it.  I don’t think I could afford a landing wheel. They do an impressive flight though. Tony Nargorva is down there with his Xair plane.  Wish he would give us a visit. So nice to see him again after all these years, our first instructor, in his King Cobra.
