February  2003

Oh my word it has been a frightfully boring month so I have little to write about, that’s the English way of saying stuff happens only not very often.

Lakeland had the F.A.A. seminar and had a fairly good turn out, surprising seeing they had a RV Fly-In at the same time, even in the cold there were quite a few airplanes, we also had several planes fly in.  Like the Adventura, CGS Hawk, Rans S12, SeaRey, another S12, Airaile, SkyBoy

Phil Lockwood gave a great talk on the first Air Cam and his trip into Africa, this plane is back home and in Atlanta being restored and with luck we might see it at Sun N fun this year, Phil has restored the engines Rotax 582’s and painted white, later Phil gave a talk on maintenance of 912s.

Several Gators turned up, Rex taking Photos, on are web site if you would like to see them. Jack Levering helped me do the door prizes, our friend from Canada turned up with Fred, Fritz now snow birding also showed.  Pizza was served for lunch.

My quest for old aircraft for Sun N Fun is not doing very well at all. SOS Help please if you know of one anywhere ring me.

In the latest addition of Ultralight Flying Buyers Guide there are a lot of planes missing, but now forty one different Powered Parachutes being manufactured, eighteen powered Para Gliders and fifty five Trikes what a task to remember and recognize all those this coming year.

Bob and Krystal visited Titusville airport to see and go over the Collings Foundation B17, Bob thought it a small airplane, not small Bob but cramped for space, can you imagine having to fly one of these on a bombing raid with nine hundred and ninety nine others, the bomb aimer having to walk down the four inch cat walk when a bomb hung up and shake it loose. In the early stages of the war a rear gunner survived three missions. My sister’s boyfriend, a Pilot in a Wellington lost his life on his first mission over Germany; our milkman, rear gunner in a Lancaster survived two missions. Thank goodness it’s all very different today.  OR IS IT?

Dear Ole Artie has not been doing very well health wise, we all wish him well but if you have the time give him a tinkle (English for phone call) he would love to be thought of.

Congratulations to Allen Resnick on becoming President Again and thanks to all the other positions filled by the same members, what would we do without these fine people. Krystal as Treasurer, Fran as Secretary, and the directors at large. Carolyn the Editor still doing a very fine job we owe them big time!

Thank you Charles for doing a great job through 2002.
