April  2005

The Spring Fly in was a really pleasant day the weather really co-operated and everybody that took part or just came to watch enjoyed themselves.

Rhett started the ball rolling, flying Daves. RV8 He flew past at a high rate of knots, climbed out doing the best Victory roll I have seen in years. Peggy Wagstaff once said if Rhett had taken up acrobatics he would be a champion.

The ladies of the  GATOR CATERING CHUCKWAGON,{ie} Misses Fran Cantrill and (Biker Queen) Pam Almond  Kay Levering and Linda Owens with Charlie and Billy in the back ground cooking, they  had coffee and brownies from the start of the day, and later Hot Dogs, and Hamburgers  Salad and just about everything to keep the wolves from the door and my gosh it all tasted so good . My lovely daughter in law kept me well fed and watered, gosh its nice to be spoilt.

Competition started right on time. (At the Gator Field)?  with CHARLES . FRED. & ALLEN. M’cing and marshalling.

First was the bomb drop, the gator field is the only place I have ever been that has a Robinson 22 Helicopter that joins in. It was flown by Jeff Abrams .Dave Lepow got lucky and won the Bomb Drop in Buccaneer X A.

Pilots taking part were Buddy Babcock. Dave McMurray. Felix Perez . Rob Pitschman.  Jeff and Danny Abrams.  Dave Lepow . Scott Garrett. Gary Grayshaw. Gene? flying a Flightstar from Blackwater, and our very own LADY PILOT.  Lori  Lepow

Later we were entertained with a Spot Landing and a Dead Stick , followed by a model aircraft show and of course the very popular Candy Drop the children like so well .My two grandchildren, my daughter and son in law were spectators Kyle and Kinley got their share of the candy and were well pleased. Cindy got to ride with Jeff Abrams in the Robinson 22 to drop the Candy who’s a lucky girl then.!

Bob Lane had us all watching as he made beautiful landing in his Piper Twin Seneca this is the plane he uses for the Coast Guard , and I think is the biggest aircraft,( Spam Can),we have ever had at Gator field. Well done Bob you had us all enthralled by your skills. Sorry to say I had   to get to work at Sun N fun so could not see your take off.

We had a beautiful Air Cam fly in from Bob White, a Searey, it was reported later, he landed wheels down on a lake? A Fly By, of beauty The Stearman, a sight to behold. Danny Abrams flew in a four seat Cherokee. We were able to see a brand new Trike from Canada. THE TUNDRA, being introduced at Sun N Fun, but the Gators saw it first

Jack Levering was the Spring Fly-In Master Of Ceremonies and JACK “YOU DONE GOOD”. Thank you for a good time was had by all.
