April 2008
Sorry I haven’t a lot to write about, each month I scratch my *****, sadly I haven’t been anywhere much, I did go up to Cannon Creek Lake City, to visit Jim and Deb of ASC, that’s a nice home on an Airport, Weather was too rough to go flying. Otherwise my new hobby of Radio Controlled Sailing has filled my need to do something, Its a very interesting hobby and a lot tougher than I anticipated, not being a sailor much in my life, I had a friend who owned a Catamaran, that bored me senseless and I owned a Mirror sailing dingy, an English boat made from a kit supplied by the English newspaper, and that I found the a most boring hobby, sailing up and down the beaches looking at the eye candy well out of reach, I used to tow the boat with a Fiat 5oo Topolino which made people stare. However I have two boats a Victoria Yacht 30 inches by 54 and a North Sea Herring fishing boat with an electric motor used for rescue when your boat runs out of batteries in the middle of the pond, I have less than $500 invested so it’s a hobby I can afford after the initial lay out the only cost is batteries. I belong to a club called The Sunday Sloopers and they meet and race every Sunday, in a seven boat race I come seventh regular as clockwork. The one draw back is finding a retention pond nearer home to practice, security or Police turn up as they say your trespassing The Fact I shall now have to be more careful of, now the my son Charles is an Orange County Deputy Sheriff. He graduated from the Police Academy on the 13th of April, Iam so proud of that boy I could bust and it wouldn’t look good on my résumé with headlines NICKED BY HIS FATHER plus I don’t fancy looking down the end of a 9 millimeter Glock. Well Sun and Fun is nearly here I shall be there Friday the Eleventh to receive the Moody Award from the USUA it will be at the USUA booth at five o’clock. I hope there will be some more Ultralight being shown and flown, the two that were at Sebring looked very interesting and I am looking forward to seeing them fly. The weather at Sebring was awful and they didn’t fly. The Owners have said the field will keep open for another couple of years at least, and I wish them the best hope everybody supports them. Vern |
