December 2007

A good Fly In was held and was supposed to be the last at Gator Field, a fairly good turn out and we saw some old members turn up which was a wonderful reunion of old friends, and a good amount of flying and normal events took place and although I wasn’t there a super evening meal of roast pig and appreciation awards handed out, I was a lucky recipient of one I appreciate. As the day began rumors had it the Lawyer for the person buying the field phoned requesting an extension, as it was needed, building has kinda stopped with the Nations economy and the housing problems. A meeting of the board is fixed for the 29th  of November, my sons birthday, Thirty-Three, where did all the years go? Rex our Web Site Director came all the way from Arizona with Lois. The Gators owe Rex a debt of gratitude it’s a great web site.  It was good to see the old members again a lot of Nostalgia, twenty years plus, a lot have flown from our field, the sad thing as I see it, so many of us are older and the interest has waned with age, so many of our hangers are empty, try as I might I cant see sticking a hundred thousand dollar LSA airplane in one. PPCs are rare, Ultralights non-existent.  PPGs don’t need them, how do we pay the rent, insurance Taxes, mow the grasses, keep the machinery running. We have an opportunity to bow out gracefully and I think we should do that. “An End of a Wonderful Era.” After Jan 31st a new era begins, yes I tell it as it is, In Five years the Bloody Lawyers will be so busy suing, Back will come the days of Cessna Piper Etc and it will be cost prohibitive and again the interest will die, Ultralights might come back but we are talking years down the road, I really don’t see the interest anymore look at the flight line at Sun and fun, the spectators can be counted since 2001. You’d like to buy an Ultralight where? There are only three I know off, that claim 254lbs. who out there is buying a five-gallon tank taking of the brakes and starter.  Changing the motor for less horsepower, its all possible but I don’t see or hear of anybody doing it.

Talking of awards you may or not be aware, the day before the Fly In, I heard from The U.S.U.A. I am the recipient of the 2007 “Moody Award” the highest honor that one can get in The Ultralighting Community. I am very grateful to them

Hope everybody had a great Thanks Giving; I did with family, and just prior, visited my Daughter, Son in law, and Grand children in Colorado I haven’t missed a Grand parents day at their schools yet, I liked Denver it but it was cold, loved the Mountains and ski resorts, I eat Buffalo, Elk, and Quail for the first time and pretty sure I wont again.

The Buffalo and Elk was tough as old boots and the Quail a required taste, Scot Joseph don’t worry I don’t want your Job?

Sad to report our Candy drop man for many years Clyde Jones lost his wife, Robbie is officiating the funeral.

Well you all have a great Christmas and I hope for everything your hearts desire.
