July 2004

Very sad to report the death of Ivy Cannon owner of Blackwater Creek, and loving called THE MAYOR, a real character who had his share of Flying joys and tribulations running the airpark and orange groves on which he lived. His son I am lead to believe is to continue running the airpark. Just recently they had started building hangers there on the site of an old chicken farm. He will be missed by all and his friends in the Flying Community.

I had a phone call asking if I would officiate at a Powered Parachute event up in Michigan, I agreed and they sent me an Air ticket for Memorial Weekend. It was wet and windy, and cold and I enjoyed the change from the Florida heat. My Host and Hostess went out of their way to be super kind, and hospitable. I had a great weekend.

It was held on a Dude Ranch and apart from River Ranch never been to one and at River ranch never found time to find out what t was all about. Here I did a half time show with two powered Parachutes, and that was a highlight of the Rodeo, the Rodeo was a lot of fun to watch I though we folks where crazy, but these people are Bonkers they get hurt for fun.

When it got time to leave I was asked whether I would like to fly to the airport or go by road. “Is the Pope Catholic?”

So I had a twenty –nine minute flight in a Cherokee Six. Then a flight from Grand Rapids to Cincinnati which went well and on time, only to find our flight to Orlando was cancelled, four hour delay I should have expected it.

I was riding Delta   “Delays Encouraged Lie’s Told Always “

I stopped flying Delta years ago they are the worst I engaged over my fourteen years of air travel, and its expensive arriving in the wee hours of the morning in Orlando. In Daylight I can get on a Link’s bus and get almost to the door for fifty cents! Who said old age didn’t have some perks. Don’t envy it though you get there soon enough and what goes with isn’t worth a **** !

July time to start work again, “I know”! “ but what else do I do” I really Love The Arlington Show,  Washington State, its everything Sun and Fun Isn’t, Friendly run by a family that loves the business and Ultralights, and does not bleed the public to come and see. Of course its suffering like the rest, waiting on the FAA to move one way or another, the mere mention of Sport Pilot and a nasty contorted expression comes over a persons face like so where is the piles of mass destruction. The EAA said it would be there? Well maybe Oshkosh and that’s on the calendar for the end of July.
